URGENT POST: What Time Does Your Flight Leave on July 14?

IF YOUR HAVE BOOKED A FLIGHT BEFORE 1:00 PM ON FRIDAY, JULY 14, YOU ARE GOING TO MISS YOUR FLIGHT!

Amy has been keeping tabs on people who are flying independently, and we’ve already caught a couple people who think they’re going to make a 9:00 am flight out of Heathrow on July 14. If that’s you – YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR FLIGHT!!!

Why?

  • We have a MAJOR concert in Hythe on Thursday night, July 13. Probably too late to catch a train to London that night, but even if you could…
  • It would cost at least $30 taxi fare to get to the nearest train station…
  • Another $70 to take a train to London…
  • Then you’d have to buy a ticket to ride the London Underground to another train station…
  • So you could buy ANOTHER train ticket for $30 to Heathrow…
  • Where hotels start at $200 per night – IF you could manage to get there before all the trains stop running.

That entire transfer will take AT LEAST three hours and won’t be cheap. (See above!) And you should plan to check in at Heathrow three hours before your flight time as that is an ENORMOUS airport.

Also… if you haven’t sent Amy your flight information, please do so ASAP. If you HAVE sent her your info, and you need to change your flight having read this post, please send her that information as well. Her email address is: amyander@udel.edu

Hoping you’ll all booked changeable airfares!

  1. Follow-up… I did find a train that would leave around 5:00 am getting you to Heathrow just barely in time for a morning departure, but the train itself is about $125, AND… you’d have to be super proactive in finding an early morning taxi to leave the hotel around 4:00 am as there are only one or two taxi companies in the entire region. (And that will easily cost you $50) If you decide to risk that, but super-diligent in getting all those pieces in place well in advance.

  2. We have a flight out of LHR at 1:25PM, but the itinerary says the bus to the airport is leaving at 10:30AM. Does that mean we need to find our own transportation?

    1. Hey Kathryn – Indeed, anyone catching a flight before 5:00 pm should book their own transportation to LHR. For a 1:25 pm flight, that shouldn’t be too difficult on public transportation.
