Hello Schola friends,
In case you haven’t heard, Helen Spence passed on August 8th. Services wiill be held at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church this Friday at 11:00 am. 276 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19711
Most of you knew Helen as a vibrant member of the S2 section, though I knew Helen long before she joined Schola. Her father, Robert King, was a beloved band director at UD – and department chair for a number of years, I believe – back in the early days of the UD Music Department. The King family established a scholarship in his name, having been amazingly supportive of many School of Music programs over the decades. In fact, in lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting contributions to that scholarship fund instead..
Helen was a particularly enthusiastic advocate for choral and instrumental music at UD, and as many of you know, was always full of smiles and hugs.
