DCS Super Post (May Edition)

Kia Ora, DCS! Can you believe our last rehearsal weekend is at the end of THIS month?!?! It seems like just yesterday that application materials were coming in, and now we are in the final stretch. Please read this entire post carefully, as it contains pertinent information for everyone.

Attire

First of all, please make sure that you have your attire ordered (and have tried it on!). We will be in concert attire for our concert in June. In case you missed the attire info, you can find that here. Let Rachel or me know if you need help with attire.

Rehearsal Weekend #3

Speaking of concert… here are the details! Our farewell concert will be June 2, 6:30 pm, at St. Helena’s Parish (602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE). The concert will be free of charge (donations accepted), so please invite everyone you know!

As a reminder, our rehearsals for this final weekend run May 31 – June 2. Dr. Head will be in touch with more specific details about the weekend, including times and locations of rehearsals.

Rachel told us that our rehearsal weekend coincides with UD Alumni Weekend, which is causing hotel rates to spike. Make sure you know where you are staying sooner rather than later! Here is the link to the housing and transportation form for the upcoming weekend. Please complete the form if you are in need of OR if you can provide housing or transportation.

New Zealand Details!

We FINALLY know a few concrete details about our time in New Zealand. We will be staying at the Airedale Boutique Suites in Auckland, which is in the absolute perfect location (walking distance to all performance venues, waterfront area, etc.). Hooray!!!

Here is a link to the competition schedule. We are competing in Categories 8, 15, 19, and 22. Our schedule should look something like this:

  • July 9 – arrive in Auckland
  • July 10, 7:30 pm – Opening Ceremony, Spark Arena
  • July 11 – perform in the Celebration Concert, Auckland Town Hall, Great Hall
  • July 11 OR 12 – Category 15 competition (sacred a cappella set), St. Matthew-in-the-City
  • July 12 – Category 8 competition (mixed choir set), Aotea Centre, Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre
  • July 13 – DAY OFF
  • July 14, 10:00 am – Champions Category Awards Ceremony, Spark Arena
  • July 15 – DAY OFF
  • July 16, 3:30 pm – Parade of Nations and stage rehearsals
  • July 17 – DAY OFF (possible stage rehearsal)
  • July 18 – Category 22 competition (spirituals set), St. Matthew-in-the-City
  • July 19 – Category 19 competition (contemporary mixed set), Auckland Town Hall, Great Hall
  • July 20, 10:00 am – Champions Category Awards Ceremony, Spark Arena
  • July 20, 7:30 pm – Closing Ceremony, Spark Arena
  • July 21 – DCS Closing Concert with a local New Zealand choir, St. John’s Anglican Parish, Te Awamutu
  • July 22 – fly home

This schedule is solely based on the linked schedule from Interkultur. We will receive a concrete schedule for our group 4 weeks prior to the competition. Please note that July 13 and July 15 should be true days off. July 17 could be totally free, or they could tell us that we have limited stage rehearsal time that day. MOST of these days look like they won’t be long, so you should still have plenty of time to explore Auckland. I would plan on any excursions away from downtown for one of those two off days.

Tickets to workshops and celebration concerts are available here. We are performing in the first celebration concert (A Choral Kaleidoscope), so any family or friends who plan to be in Auckland may want to snag a ticket for the July 11 event.

Allergies/Dietary Needs

As we look to pair people with home stay hosts and finalize meal preferences with airlines, we need to know of any dietary restrictions and allergies. If you have any of these needs, please fill out this form. If you do not have any of these specific needs, no need to fill out the form.

What did I miss???

Please reach out to me with your questions. I can’t wait to see you all in a few short weeks!

Amy
