GOOD ADVICE FROM KATHRYN
The walk is hot! BRING WATER!! You can always fill your bottle with the cold tap water in the bathroom at the MMC.
The walk is slippery! WEAR shoes with grip and BRING your concert shoes.
You might also consider doing a quick “locker room change” at the church if your concert attire is too warm. Personally, I am planning to wear a tank top and shorts for the walk up and throw my dress on at the top (in a respectful/modest way as there are no changing rooms)
Generally speaking, there are no benches on the way up to the top. Have a buddy and look out for each other to make that you’re hydrating.
Not many bathroom options on the way up. Bring a 1 euro coin in case you have to pay at a shop.

Good morning, everyone.
As you will see, we don’t have much rehearsal time today. So we’ll have to be super efficient in the hour we do have to run a few of the rough patches – especially in pieces like Beati, Mendelssohn, Holst and the Runestad. I have to keep reminding myself about my “self-declared agenda” for this project. That is, let’s not get too stressed. We’re here mainly to spend time together as a community of impassioned musicians, while enjoying the opportunity to sing through some great music along the way. This is Choir Camp!
And to be sure, I have no idea who will find their way to be audience members at the concert this evening. We’ve certainly been the talk of the town, but in past iterations, we’ve built an audience by roaming about the city while singing Spirituals in the streets. In this case, that really doesn’t work into the logistics of the schedule, nor am I too excited about being out in the heat any longer than absolutely necessary.
All that said, I hope you will take my lead on spending a bit of time looking and listening to your music while enjoying your lovely surrounds and a second cup of coffee this morning. While there’s no question we could all benefit from diction coaching in the Mendelssohn, and pitch tweaking in myriad other pieces, the singular thing you can do to enrich EVERYONE’S experience for this evening is to make every effort to get up and out of your scores. I think you’ll LOVE the acoustics of the church, and even to have the opportunity to sing Paul Mealor’s music with him in our midst deserves everyone’s best efforts to make this something really special.
You just never know when the magic is going to kick in, but I”m pretty sure there will be some tonight.
Thanks for a great week of singing, sipping, and sailing. From my humble perspective, this has been a wonderful experience – start to (almost) finish!
Have a lovely day.
